BUET-IWFM

FACILITIES

INTRODUCTION

BUET iwfm provides a range of facilities for the students making sure a high-quality educational environment. From enriched library to high tech laboratories full of modern equipment, all are available for the students.
This page presents all the facilities that are available for students at present. We are working to provide more facilities continuously.

SOIL AND WATER ANALYSIS LAB

At present, instruments and equipment of the laboratory are used for routine wet chemistry analysis, basic microbial analysis of water and trace level analysis of soil and water. The instruments include: Visible Spectrophotometer, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Kjeldahl digestion apparatus, sample refrigerators, automatic respirometric BOD apparatus, Incubator, Oven, Muffle Furnace, TOC Analyzer with Autosampler, Field Level Multi-parameters Water Analyzer, Portable multi-parameter Water Quality Meter, TCLP leaching apparatus, Digital Reactor Blocks, Digital Titrator etc.

CLIMATE CHANGE MODELING LAB

The Climate Change Modeling Laboratory has been established by the funding of DFID to promote regional climate modeling in Bangladesh in 2010. Later, this laboratory under the Climate Change Study Cell of BUET has been further strengthened by a project of Climate Change Trust Fund of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The hardware of the Laboratory includes: 10 high-speed computers for regional climate model simulations. Recently, one new IBM Server x3850x5Xeon 10C E7-8860 has been added under the HELIX project funded by EU..

REMOTE SENSING & GIS LABORATORY

The Remote Sensing and GIS Laboratory of the Institute began in 2004.The hardware of the Laboratory includes: 15 high-speed computers for image processing and geospatial analysis, hand-held stereoscopes for visual image interpretation, printer and scannerThe Remote Sensing and GIS Laboratory of the Institute began in 2004.The hardware of the Laboratory includes: 15 high-speed computers for image processing and geospatial analysis, hand-held stereoscopes for visual image interpretation, printer and scanner

PHYSICAL MODELING FACILITY

The Institute has developed various physical modeling facilities including a large Flood Flow Channel (FFC) facility (main channel dimension: 35 m x 4 m x 1.2 m) which is the first of its kind in Bangladesh. These facilities have been used to study compound channel flow, erosion in deeply submerged sluice gate, local scour around piers and abutments, floodplain sedimentations etc. Future research focus comprises bank erosion and river channel changes, morphological behavior at channel bifurcation, failure of hydraulic structures, etc.

STUDENT ACTIVITY IN LIBRARY

LIBRARY FACILITY

The Institute maintains a library covering books, reports, journals, etc. in water resources and other related fields. At present the library has over 3000 books and reports. The Institute receives the Hydrological Sciences Journal of International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) on regular basis. Notably, the Institute library is the repository in Bangladesh of all IAHS publications.
