We are proud to announce that Professor AKM Saiful Islam, Professor of the Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has been appointed as a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), Working Group I (Chapter 10: Climate Information and Services).
This prestigious appointment reflects global recognition of Professor Islam’s outstanding contributions to climate science, disaster risk reduction, and water and flood management research. His selection also marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh, as it strengthens the representation of the Global South and ensures that regional perspectives on climate change and extreme events are reflected in the IPCC’s most authoritative scientific assessments.
In the past, Prof Islam was also a Lead Author on the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) for the Working Group I and is also currently contributing as a Lead Author of the IPCC’s Special Report on Climate Change and Cities in the Seventh Assessment cycle. Learn more about the report here.
