COMPLETED RESEARCH

Numerical Investigation of Non-Linear Surge-Tide Interactions in the Bay of Bengal along the Bangladesh Coast

Research Funding: Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET)

Faculty Researcher: Prof Dr Mohammad Asad Hussain, Prof Dr Mohammed Abed Hossain, Mr Partho Das

Collaboration: Lead: Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM), BUET

Duration: June, 2016 - December, 2018

The overall objective of the project was to clarify the impact of surge-tide interactions in the Bay of Bengal along the Bangladesh coast through numerical modeling. Specific objectives included simulation of residual surge and surge modulation along the Bangladesh coast; investigation of the impact of tidal phase shift and cyclone characteristics on surge height, surge arrival time and surge duration using numerical simulation; investigation of the effect of river systems upon the surge-tide interaction; and determination of cyclone characteristics with most severe conditions along the Bangladesh coast using stochastic approach.
